Company and Artist Bios:
Jessica Care Moore was the first poet to ever win the nationally televised Showtime at the Apollo competition 5 times in a row. One of her most famous poems is "Until We Dance, For Joseph". She is the founder and CEO of Moore Black Press. She also served as executive producer for and hosted her own television show “Spoken”.
John Agard is a playwright, poet and children’s writer. He loved to listen to cricket commentary on the radio and began making up his own, which led to a love of language. His awards include the 1997 Paul Hamlyn Award for Poetry, the Cholmondeley Award in 2004 and the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry in 2012. Agard has written more than 40 books.
Mista Gee is the founder of Chill Pill. Chill Pill is at the cutting edge of underground poetry. He shares his love for the spoken word through poetry and rap. “What I love about Spoken Word is its randomness.”
Simon Mole is a spoken word artist whose writing and performance foregrounds the unseen and the unheard. Since his early teens Simon has also been writing and devising theatre-based art, and in 2008 he was commissioned by Brakin Arts Festival to create a piece challenging the boundaries between hip hop, theatre and spoken word. He is also a creator of Chill Pill.
Deanna Rodger has toured Germany and performed her poetry at both Buckingham Palace and number 10 Downing Street.She is the youngest ever UK Poetry Slam Champion (2008), trained as an actor with The National Youth Theatre REP Company (2012).
Raymond Antrobus is a spoken word poet and photographer. He appeared BBC Radio 4’s Bespoken Word. He has also toured his poetry across Germany, Switzerland, Italy, South Africa and USA.He won Best Performance by a London poet at the Farrago annual poetry awards 2010 and Canterbury Word Slam Champ 2012.
Adam Kammerling attended his first spoken word show in 2007, and since then has been performing his own brand of eclectic and delicious poetry across the UK and overseas. He has also done theatre shows in Soho and at Bristol Old Vic, both solo and with his collaborative musical project. He introduces workshops in schools and has also worked with the London charities.
DJ Russ Jones is also known as “The Hackney Globe Trotter”. Born and raised in Hackney he sources this eclectic material from travelling extensively and appearing at world beat clubs in every remote corner of the world, in Beijing, Moscow, Sao Salvador, Oslo, Istanbul, and Tokyo. He is becoming one of the leading djs on ‘global beat’ scene.
Melanie Abrahams is a curator of spoken word. In 2010 she was recognised as one of 50 ‘Women to Watch’ in the arts. She co-produced the ‘Facing Leicester Square’ recording for BBC Radio 3 Drama, and was Artistic Director of ‘Showcase Live’, which supported men with experiences of mental illness to write and perform. In 2004 she curated of A Great Day, a historical photo shoot of 50 outstanding writers on the steps of the British Library. Website Listen to an interview on London Liming.
