Launch of Happy Birthday to Me: A collection of contemporary Asian writing

A unique collection of diverse writing has been published (October 30).

Happy Birthday to Me, A collection of contemporary Asian writing includes new writing by Asian writers from across the globe. Over a hunded emerging writers took to the challenge to submit a piece of new writing on the theme of celebration. The finished collection includes short stories and poetry encompassing broader themes of love, loss and belonging.

The collection also includes a selection of interviews conducted by The Asian Writer, an online literary magazine which launched the competition. The interviews took place between 2007-2010 and are published in print for the first time. Notable authors include Man Booker Prize nominated Mohsin Hamid, Desmond Elliot Prize winner, Nikita Lalwani and Commonwealth Best Book Winner Rana Dasgupta. They give a rare insight into the experiences of contemporary South Asian writers.

A final section of the book is aimed at aspiring writers with top tips to getting published from twenty published writers and an indepth no-nonsense interview with literary agent, Lorella Belli.

The Asian Writer was set up in 2007 to support and champion British Asian writers and give published writers a platform to showcase their work.
