Happy Soul Festival, the UK’s premier celebration of Black and minority ethnic film and arts exploring wellbeing, is pleased to announce its 2012 programme.

The award-winning festival, now in its sixth year, will take place 25th May – 10th June, and is dedicated to raising awareness of wellbeing and mental health in the Black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities where these issues are often stigmatised.

The free festival will provide audiences the opportunity to view and attend screenings of – African-American, Asian, African and Polish films and community events taking place in Brent, Wandsworth, Kingston, Merton, Sutton, Richmond and Lambeth, which explore wellbeing issues within BME communities.

Films this year being showcased during the festival include: Small Time Obsession, Antwone Fisher, Dawn of Hope, Teza and Lucky. There will also be special performance of the stage production Normal? directed by Ann Akin.

Festival Highlights include: Asia Soul – a showcase of Bollywood dancing, Indian food, with free massage and complimentary therapies; Happy Soul Does Upfront Comedy featuring John Simmit and Curtis Walker; an innovative Light Grafitti Art Exhibition and the Happy Soul Youth Awards, which will see young people from schools and community groups in South London making short films which explore mental health awareness from their experience.

Community well-being and feel-good events include: Empowering Positive male Role Models; Be Active Brent; Creative Ways to Wellbeing; and a Family Funday in association with Sutton FC.
