Chinese Arts Centre Represents Manchester in the Pearl Awards

The Pearl Awards will be presented to the winner at The Shaw Theatre, Novotel Hotel, London, Euston on Thursday 28 September 2006

This years finalists for the Pearl Awards have been selected. Chinese Arts Centre is proud to be selected in the category of Creative Excellence Award. Sarah Champion, CEO at Chinese Arts Centre said “Chinese Arts Centre is extremely proud to be a finalist again for the Pearl awards. This is our twentieth year of promoting Chinese arts and culture and it would be a fitting tribute to win such a prestigious award.”

Chinese Arts Centre will represent Manchester, other finalists for the Creative Excellence category are Jiang Li, Northamptonshire and Mr K H Li from Liverpool.

Nominees were asked to submit a single piece of work, or a number of items that have been published, presented or performed in the 12 months prior to July 31 2006. Chinese Arts Centre submitted China Live 2005, a major UK tour of performances and film screenings that offered audiences a rare opportunity to experience some of the visceral and challenging performance work created by the current generations of Chinese artists. The Creative Excellence Award is set to recognise excellence and outstanding achievement in the visual, performing and literary arts. Chinese Arts Centre are particularly pleased China Live 2005 has been selected for the Pearl Awards 2006 because of our recent success in securing funding for VITAL International Chinese Live Art Festival 2006 which is a direct result of the success of China Live 2005.

VITAL 06 will be the start of a major programme of Live Art events by Chinese Arts Centre. The festival will take place from 2 – 5 November 2006 and will be followed by a year of residencies by Chinese artists in collaboration with institutions across England. These activities will culminate in a second festival, VITAL 07, which will take place in Manchester in October 07. VITAL 07 will include an international conference as well as a programme of performances. The discussions, residencies and programmed artists will be celebrated in the VITAL publication due out in Spring 08.

VITAL 06 will contain Live Art performances, film screenings, and artists’ talks and presentations. Confirmed artists to date Marcus Young (USA), He Chengyao (China), LEUNG Po-shan, Anthony (Hong Kong), Patty Chang (USA), Mad for Real (UK), Edwin Lung (UK/Hong Kong), Dai GuangYu (China), He Yungchang (China), and Lisa Cheung (UK).
