Global fair trade sales have now reached $400m annually and are projected to rise as the popularity of ethical trading gains increasing mass market appeal. But this is still only 0.01% of the global market. Fair trade enterprise returns profits of between 25 – 30% to producers, improving the livelihoods of those conventionally marginalised from global export markets.
Countries represented at the Canning House Ethical Christmas Fair include Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Palestine, South Africa, Namibia, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Zambia and Ghana. Products on sale will be high quality, hand-made jewellery and textiles, organic foods, limited edition ethical clothing and a variety of baskets, crafts and candle holders.
Sustainable coffee testing will be held throughout the day.
To make it an enjoyable day for family and friends we are also providing live Brazilian music by Kabula, mulled wine, Brazilian food by GayaEcotrade, a raffle and a chance to learn more about fair trade and sustainable production through brochures and information packs.
As the ‘home of Latin America’ in the UK, Canning House feels it is our obligation to help small farmers and producers in Latin America, Africa and South Asia sell their products here.
