Sketch duo Asian Provocateurs (www.asianprovocateurs.com) are comedy writer-performers Sajeela Kershi and Yasmeen Khan. They are debuting their satirical sketch show, ‘Asian Provocateurs: Rule Britannia!’, at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show features media-spoofs, cross-cultural comedy and original characters and explores preconceptions about what it means to be a British Asian woman today.
Asian Provocateurs are the UK’s only female British Asian sketch duo and were finalists in the 2011 New Act of the Year competition (formerly Hackney Empire competition).
They will be doing a preview in London on July 15th, at the Hampstead Comedy Club at 9pm. No advance booking, tickets £5 on door. (The Pembroke Castle, 150 Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, London NW1 8JA) See below for details of Edinburgh run.
Sajeela Kershi is a stand-up comedian/MC and writer. She has performed all over the UK and internationally and has been involved with various Edinburgh shows in the past, including her first solo show ‘Bitch Got Owned’ in 2009. She infamously played the outraged heckler in Brendon Burns 2007 If.Comedy award-winning show.
Yasmeen Khan is a broadcaster, journalist, performer and writer. She is a presenter and producer of documentaries on BBC Radio 4 and is a regular voice on the BBC Asian Network. She devises and performs comedy with the award-winning MUJU theatre company and is now developing her first play.
