On October 10, 2010 the city of Glasgow will play host to Scotland’s first Halal exhibition. From 12pm till 7pm the Central Mosque Hall will be showcasing a free day of excellent Halal entertainment and exhibitions, providing something for the whole family to enjoy.
Organisers, Oceanic Consulting are pleased to announce UK charity Islamic Relief, as a main charity partner. Islamic Relief aims to alleviate the suffering of the world’s poorest people by responding to disasters and emergencies as well as promoting sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities – regardless of race, religion or gender.
The event will be a fresh and exciting way of bringing Halal products and suppliers together with the prosperous Muslim Community in Scotland and give the opportunity for traditional Muslim-focused companies to expand their customer base and showcase genuine products and services
The event will also be a chance to find out more about charity partner Islamic Relief. Islamic Relief is a UK based charity which aims to alleviate the suffering of the world’s poorest people. It is an independent Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded in 1984 by Dr Hany El Banna. Habib Malik, a spokesperson for the charity sounded his support for the partnership with ‘Be Halal’;
“I think that the Be Halal campaign is an excellent initiative and the exhibition on October 10th will provide a fun day out for all the family. Our presence at the exhibition will send out a reminder on how fortunate we are in this country to have escaped the suffering with which some of the world’s poorest people have to live with every day. We wish the event organisers Oceanic Consulting good luck with the campaign, and we hope to raise lots of money for Islamic Relief come the Be Halal Exhibition in October.”
Islamic Relief works in over 40 countries, not only combating immediate suffering but also promoting a long term solution to people’s development needs without the need for continuing external assistance. Currently it has major operations underway on the ground in Pakistan to help aid in the rebuilding and recovery process after the floods.
Amit Arora, Business Development Director for organisers Oceanic Consulting commented on the new partnership;
“Islamic Relief is currently heavily involved in the recovery efforts from the floods in Pakistan. With their attendance at the Be Halal Exhibition in Glasgow, we are sure to raise a substantial amount of money to help with the appeal. Given that there will be a strong Muslim presence at the event, Islamic Relief are therefore an ideal charity partner for the event.”
To help with the fundraising efforts, the day’s most unique entertainment will be in the form of a local X-Factor style contest, showcasing the vocal talents of numerous budding Islamic artists in a series of round elimination followed by a final. The winner will be chosen by an external judge as yet to be confirmed and there are various prizes up for grabs. Spaces are still available to perform at the Islamic Factor on 10 October, 2010, from 12pm till 7pm. The competition is Nasheed singing only and all entrants should prepare three songs if they wish for a chance to progress to the semi finals/ finals.
