Ancient Jain Culture and Wisdom Showcased

One of the oldest living traditions of peace and respect for all living beings, the Jain tradition, is being showcased at a special ‘Fun n Learn’ Day in Croydon on 4th May 2008. There are 35000 Jains in the UK who were born and raised in this tradition, and Jains have temples and community centres in various parts of the country. Among the speakers and dignitaries is an eminent Jain nun from India, Sadhvi Shilapi.

“Many of today’s problems like health, environment, greed, family break-up, drugs and alcoholism, have very ancient solutions which have stood the test of time. Unfortunately, we forget to tap into this and in the process lose some of the best wisdom which costs nothing to implement in our life,” explains Mr. Ashwin Shah, one of the organizers.

At the event, visitors will see art, learn about meditation, hear stories, participate in quizzes and games, listen to lectures and see live displays and demonstrations of the beautiful culture. The approach is interactive and modern, such that people of all ages will have something new to learn. Children will be particularly attracted to some of the special sessions – this is a must for the whole family.

The venue is Oshwal Mahajanwadi, 1 Campbell Road, Croydon, CR0 2SQ from 10 am to 7pm.
