On Tuesday 25 January 2011, Arvon will throw open its doors to host a ‘Taste of Arvon’ Open day, to co-incide with the launch of its 2011 course programme.
At this event, which will take place at the Free Word Centre in Farringdon Road, we will offer ‘Arvon Virgins’ the opportunity to come along, and see for themselves, just what an adventure a week at Arvon can be.
In addition to sampling a sprinkling of the Arvon magic, the uninitiated will also experience the unique countryside environment of one of our writing houses – without having to leave London! The evening will also offer the opportunity for guests to:
•Chat with Arvon staff and tutors about the Arvon courses, centres, grants and writing retreats
•Participate in a writers’ surgery*
•Sample local delicacies from the ‘Arvon kitchen’
•Listen to readings from this years’ tutors
Top writers on the night include: Nigel Planer, Emily Woof, Maggie Gee, Hannah Pool, Donna Daley-Clarke and Roddy Lumsden.
There will also be information on our grants scheme available for those unable to afford the full cost of an Arvon course, the chance to enter our exciting postcard competition, and for one lucky person who’s never been to Arvon before, there will be an opportunity to win a place on one of our residential writing courses in 2011.
Follow in the footsteps of top writers such as; Esther Freud, Lemn Sissay, Patrick Neate, Bernardine Evaristo, Penelope Shuttle, Paul Abbott, Roger McGough, Jackie Kay, Rumer, Liz Jensen and Patrick Gale – and come and experience a taste and the magic of Arvon.
