Art Off The Main, a Major Show Featuring Contemporary Latin American Art Returns to New York City’s Puck Building, October 4-7, 2007
New York, NY…For four exciting days, October 4-7, 2007, Art Off The Main: The African, Caribbean & Latin American Art Fair returns to New York’s landmark Puck Building, 295 Lafayette Street, with over 50 exhibitors representing over 300 artists from 20 countries.
In its fourth year, Art Off The Main provides collectors, critics and curators the opportunity to view and collect some of today’s most exciting and innovative works of art. Paintings, drawings, photography and sculptures by known and yet to be discovered artists from countries including, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela; in styles ranging from the traditional to the modern, the realist to the surrealist, the intuitive to the experimental and media ranging from traditional materials to new media.
The artists’ list from previous years’ shows includes Latin-American luminaries like Roberto Matta, Wifredo Lam and Rufino Tamayo to contemporary giants like Manuel Mendive and Kcho; providing insight into the diversity and the commonality of the art and cultures of the region.

According to Loris Crawford, the show’s Executive Producer, “Art Off The Main is the culmination of a long-held dream of staging a fine art festival that bridges a Pan-African, Pan-Caribbean cultural identity and fills an important niche in the art fair market. While there has been a recent surge in gallery and museum shows featuring contemporary African, Caribbean and Latin American art, and record auction values in the world’s art capitals, the works of art produced by these artists are still underrepresented in the United States; Art Off The Main provides a much-needed annual platform for exposure”.

Proceeds from ticket sales to the Opening Night Charity Gala, Thursday, October 4, benefits the Museum for African Art and the Paint It Pink Reception, Friday, October 5, benefits the diversity program of Young Survival Coalition, an advocacy and support group for cancer survivors under the age of 40.

Art Off The Main promises to be a highlight of New York’s fall art season…colorful… vibrant… diverse…as exciting and fascinating as the cultures it represents. The cost of admission to the Preview Charity Gala is $100; $30 for the New Collectors’ Evening and $15 for general admission (Friday 12-4 p.m., Saturday,11am-8pm and Sunday 11-7 p.m.).
