33% London 2012: A festival for Young Artists, By Young Artists.

Did you know 33% of all Londoners are under 26? This is 33% London; a multidisciplinary arts festival at Ovalhouse which celebrates the diverse and exciting talent of young artists in the capital. Now in its fifth year, the 2012 season will see two weeks of high quality theatre, dance, spoken word and art taking place throughout the building, and also provides a platform and training for artists who are less likely to take traditional routes into the arts.

Ovalhouse Press Release – For Immediate Release.
Ovalhouse is proud to present: 33% London.
The festival for Young Artists. By Young Artists.
11 – 21 January 2012

From the 11 to the 14 of January in the Theatre Downstairs the 33% Drama Company present, as part of National Theatre Connections, The Grandfathers by Rory Mullarkey and Directed by Toby Clarke; combining movement, puppetry and text to explore the comradeship of teenage conscripts in a futile war. This is followed by the premiere of SKEEN! (18 – 21 January), the debut play by young writer, Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, and directed by Roy Alexander Weise. Both Tristan and Roy have developed and trained with 33% London over the past five years. SKEEN! is a play that challenges how young people are represented, and how, in a wider context, we choose to represent ourselves.

The work in the Theatre Upstairs focuses on showcasing and developing new voices. And Introducing… features two new full length productions by Young Companies: Hidden by Shereen Jasmin Phillips and Entropy by Project. FiRST BiTES, is a series of 4 scratch performances: BEFFTA award winning Vintage Star’s new piece Normal?; The Lodger – a piece of new writing by Marcus Orlandi; a sensory and evocative homage to American cinema in the 1930’s in A life in Monochrome by Blind Tiger Theatre Company, and We’re Just Stuck Here For A While – a multi-media project about not-belonging by Irene Liverani and Mattia Pagura. Throughout the festival our site-specific series of short plays Around the House will fill every other nook and cranny with theatrical treats.
33% London will also feature live acoustic music, a spoken word night held by The Roundhouse’s poetry collectives Rubix & Elephant, masterclasses from Frantic Assembly and film-maker Kwame Lestrade, and a specially commissioned exhibition of young artists in our gallery.
