There are 15 local team leaders for the event here in the UK, all of whom are looking for walkers and sponsors to help make these walks a success. Next Sunday, people will gather in countries around the world, (Australia, America, Canada, China, Ireland, Pakistan and the UK), for a 10K walk to raise needed funds for children with Autism. With enough walkers, our combined footsteps can reach around the world.
The diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder has skyrocketed in the last 5 years. Autism is a complex developmental disorder that typically appears during the first 3 years of life. It may result in challenges in communication, emotion, behavior, motor skills and social interaction.
An estimated 535,000 people have Autism in the UK.
40% of all children with autism wait more than three years for a clear diagnosis
21% of children with ASD have been excluded from school at least once
Over 1,600 families here in the UK run Son-Rise programmes
One hundred percent of the net proceeds raised in Walk Around the World will go to enabling the Autism Treatment Center of America™, a non-profit organization, to help families here in the UK seeking hopeful solutions to living with Autism.
The Son-Rise Program®, only offered at the Autism Treatment Center of America™, was the first to suggest that Autism did not have to be a life sentence. The program teaches parents to build a bridge to the child’s world by first joining them in theirs.
From Forres to Bournemouth Son-Rise parents and friends will be walking together. Why not come along and enjoy good company, learn from people who have run programmes what Son-Rise can do for you, and get the chance to raise money to allow UK families to experience this amazing therapy.
Walkers and sponsors are encouraged to register either on the Internet at www.walkaroundtheworld.org.uk or by emailing Eileen at rainbowwarrior@btinternet or by calling 0191 488 8622.
