On Saturday 10 March 2007 between 3pm – 5pm, at Birmingham Sports Centre (ADP Room), Balsall Heath Road, Dance Artist Sohan Kailey of Aashiyana Dance Company will be running a Bhangra Dance Workshop called Bhangra Jam. This event will be taking place to fundraise in support of Red Nose Day 2007 – The Big One. People from the local community are invited to attend the event which will be very enjoyable and fun. The event will promote the use of Bhangra dance as a form of exercise, keeping fit and having a good time and most of all bringing the community together. Funky Bhangra moves will be taught by Sohan Kailey and Aruna Kailey, accompanied by pulsating Bhangra beats! This is an open workshop and entrance costs £3.50
All participants are requested to purchase their own Red Noses and wear these whilst taking part in the workshop!
During the event there will be a raffle and prizes will be given out to the winners. Prizes will consist of sports and keep fit equipment. Also there will be a small stall and volunteers will be selling refreshments and a healthy snack.
All the money raised from the event will go to Comic Relief. For every pound raised, a pound will go towards projects helping poor and disadvantaged people across Africa and the UK to change their lives. The Young Adults from the Birmingham based charity ‘Science of Spirituality’ (SOS) have volunteered in organising this event and Sohan Kailey is a member of SOS.
Sohan Kailey, says, “It’s great that the local community will be getting involved in the Bhangra Jam fundraising event. The money raised goes towards making a real difference to people that need it most. I would like to thank The Young Adults Group from Science of Spirituality, a Birmingham based charity who are helping to arrange this event.”
