Pratham Gala launches new Read India intiative

For one night only London’s elite, philanthropic and fashionable will be out in force to support Indian based charity, Pratham, which aims to reach the 100 million children in India who are unable to read or write. Pratham will be hosting the gala dinner, expected to be attended by 700 guests, on Friday 28 September at The Old Billingsgate Market, overlooking London Bridge.

The Admirable Crichton team, working with world class chefs, will be creating a delectable menu and guests will enjoy a night of spectacular entertainment including a live performance by India’s leading pop star, Kunal Ganjawala.

The ceiling of the venue will be host to two unique art installations designed and created by Dehli-based design agency KAARU.

‘The Light’ is a giant chandelier made from the used notebook paper of thousands of Pratham children across India. “The River” is a hand-embroidered tapestry made from fabric, mirrors and clothes donated by the families of Pratham children and worked on by hundreds of skilled Indian women. Both art installations will be open to the public to view after the event on the Saturday 29 September.

A live auction will be held during the evening. Items include a luxurious trek through the Himalayas and an exquisite piece of jewelry designed by renowned designer Rakesh Khanna (Winner of DeBeers Diamond International Award).

Meena Bazaar
During the Gala event, guests will be able to buy a variety of exclusive luxury items from the Meena Bazaar, a traditional open market. The bazaar will be open to the public for one day only on Saturday 29 September.
