Emily completed an application so that specific projects in Mosside and Manchester City Centre could be undertaken for the first time and then become sustainable for the foreseeable future. The idea was chosen as one of the five finalists and then it was then down to collecting as many votes as possible in a live online voting event that lasted the whole of May.
The £10,000 was presented at Shern Hall Methodist Church on the 16th July 2011
The Community Action Award, now into its third year, is designed to give something back to the many and various communities that have been associated with the Creme of Nature range. In recent years the Award has been awarded to London based groups – Be Totally You who built a training hair and beauty salon in Bromley, and the Shern Hall Methodist Steel Band who now have a complete set of brand new steel pans.
So this year the first price of £10,000 will be moving north to the Students of Manchester, who volunteer throughout the year to help a wide variety of people young and old and from every community. The Award will enable many more deserving individuals to be made to feel valued and important, and at the same time have a lasting impact on many of the students.
Plans are being made for the 2011 award. Remember it all starts with one person having one great idea that will make a difference to a community that is important to them, and before you know it that idea has become a reality for many others.
