Sightsavers Vision India Appeal, which aims to raise £1 million to help restore the sight of millions of blind people in India, is one of two charities to benefit from the black tie event at 5* venue The Grange in London on 26 March 2011.
Tickets are still available for the VIP event, where guests will witness the crowning of Miss India Worldwide UK 2011 and be entertained by live music, dance and DJ sets and enjoy a three course meal.
Jaya Patel from Miss India Worldwide UK said: “In India today, there are more than 7.5 million people who are blind from cataracts. Miss India Worldwide UK is proud to support Sightsavers’ life-changing work, as we know that money raised from our event will help end the suffering of people who are needlessly blind.”
Sightsavers will receive a percentage of money raised by the charity raffle and auction, where prizes including cricket memorabilia will be up for grabs. Miss India Worldwide UK 2011 will also donate 10% of her earnings as Miss India to the Vision India Appeal.
Marina Jones, who heads up the appeal at Sightsavers, said: “We’re hugely grateful to have been chosen as an official beneficiary of this event. It costs as little as £15 for Sightsavers to give someone who is blind from cataracts their sight back. Every penny raised from this event will be spent directly on our eye care projects transforming the lives of the poorest people in India.”
