The ceremony, held on 3rd December 2012, at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Rawalpindi, Hashoo Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Senior Management celebrating this milestone development alongside key representatives from City & Guilds and other stakeholders from the hospitality industry.
The Hashoo Foundation has been running vocational skills training programmes including hospitality management since 1988. The primary focus of Hashoo Foundation’s Skills Development Programme is to help develop employable skills through formal, non-formal and on-the-job training, equipping trainees with the skills necessary to meet the changing demands and opportunities of the economy and labour market.
The Programme also provides life skills and career-mentoring services as an integral part of its training across the Pakistan. The Foundation has so far been instrumental in training more than 33,000 individuals, who otherwise would not have been able to access or afford any formal education, in hospitality management skills.
Established in 1878, City & Guilds of UK has been under the Royal Charter since 1900, and is the leading vocational education organisation in the UK. City & Guilds work with over 10,000 centres and training providers in 80 countries around the world, offering more than 500 qualifications across 28 industries. It pioneers the most up-to-date delivery and assessment methods, and furthers the skills agenda in the UK and worldwide through profile raising, sponsorship and innovative skills projects. With two million learners working towards their qualifications every year City & Guilds is the biggest name in vocational education today.
Mr. Ali Akbar, Country Director Hashoo Foundation, Pakistan congratulated the Board of Trustees, partner NGOs, stakeholders, HF staff and trainees on achieving the accreditation of international vocational qualification with City & Guilds UK. Commenting on the partnership and collaboration he said: “This is an important milestone for Hashoo Foundation. I am confident that with this internationally recognised accreditation the trainees will be able to access better and greater opportunities and pursue more productive careers both in Pakistan and overseas and thus better serve their families and Pakistan.”
Mr.Mufthy Hashim, Regional Manager for City & Guilds – South Asia, shared the fact that in Pakistan, Skills International is working as the authorised representative of City and Guilds (UK), with the primary objective to promote and implement City & Guilds Programmes aiming at career initiation and advancement. He also spoke of City & Guilds’ role in building a global world in which all people and organisations can access the skills needed for economic and personal well-being.

The Hashoo Foundation has been running training courses in vocational skills including hospitality management since 1988 and will celebrate its Silver Jubilee next year to commemorate 25 years of commitment to serving the most needy and vulnerable members of society.
