Combining The Best Curry Talent In Scotland With Charity

The hungryhouse.co.uk Scottish Curry Awards is once again raising funds for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association who support over 3000 children, young people and families throughout Scotland who were born with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and its related conditions. The hungryhouse.co.uk Scottish Curry Awards have, since its inception in 2008, raised over £18,000 for the Charity, with the 2010’s Awards raising the largest amount ever through a raffle alone.

This year the hungryhouse.co.uk Scottish Curry awards are being held on the 23rd May at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow, and once again all funds raised in their raffle on the evening will be donated to The Scottish Spina Bifida Association (SSBA). Among the range of awards presented is Chef of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, Restaurant of the Year and Curry Lover of the Year.
Speaking about the event, Andy Wynd, Chief Executive for the Charity said, "I am delighted that the SSBA has been chosen as the nominated charity of the hungryhouse.co.uk Scottish Curry Awards 2011. Despite being the only charity in Scotland that supports those with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, the SSBA receives less than 1% in government funding. In 2011, the SSBA need to raise £1 million just to maintain their current level of vital support services, support centre, training, projects and lo-call Helpline.”
Yasmin Mahmood, event organiser with Oceanic Consulting, said: “Since 2008, we have helped raise over £18,000 for the SSBA and we hope this year’s hungyhouse.co.uk Scottish Curry Awards will prove to be the most successful yet, and hopefully we will see the same fantastic level of generosity from Scotland’s curry lovers as we did the past three years. Thanks to their invaluable contributions, individuals and families throughout Scotland will be able to access the vital support they require.”

Nominations began in February and closed on the 15th of April, with the shortlist of nominees announced on the 13th May, and a full list can be found at http://www.prlog.org/11489205-the-hungryhousecouk-scottish-curry-awards-anno. Curry houses Scotland wide have made the shortlist from host city Glasgow, to Edinburgh, Dundee, Inverness, Fort William, Biggar, Hamilton, Johnstone, St Andrews, Perth, Whitburn, to Kirkcaldy.
