Tre Azzam, Shazia Wahab, Majid Nagra and Syed Ahmed will be among Apprentice stars donning their aprons and chef hats to help cook and serve food for local homeless people. Great quantities of biryani (rice and chicken) will be cooked in huge pots under the supervision of Award winning chefs from the Pride of Asia restaurant LIVE in the park.
Local MP George Galloway, Baroness Pola Uddin, Mohammed Ali (CEO of Islam Channel), Rizwan Khaliq (CEO of IF) will be speaking at the event, alongside the Mayor and Leader of Tower Hamlets, Ahmed Omer and Lutfur Rahman.
George Galloway said, “Around the World in 10 IFtars is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the plight of homeless people in our very own city. Over the subsequent nine days 10,000 IFtars will be provided around the world; in areas affected by natural disasters and conflict including Sudan, Bosnia, Palestine, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia and Bangladesh”.
Kathleen Isaac (Thames Reach: Homeless charity) and Deborah Whittle (local shelter, Hopetown – part of the Salvation Army) will be highlighting the plight of homeless people in the borough.
Other Ramadan delights being dished up on the day include samosas, pakoras, Indian sweets and an exotic fruit salad. The meal will be served at sunset; with any remaining food distributed to various homeless shelters around the Capital.
The evening will be hosted by Rizwan Hussain (presenter on Islam Channel and Channel S with entertainment provided, with comedy from Prince Abdi and Jeff Mirza before an exclusive live performance of the “Feed the World” track featuring artists Mecca2Medina, Abdullah Rolle, Khaleel Mohammed, Muslim Belal and Labbayk.
