Dance Around The World With Rhoda Wilson

Images Video Audio
The creative arts are close to Rhoda’s heart - with her experience in world music, her passion and interest in the arts is undeniable. This season Rhoda had the pleasure of meeting Elsa Perez, a founding member of Dance Around The World, an annual festival which celebrate the art of Dance from around the world.
Elsa is an extraordinary person who teach Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Folk dances as well as South African and Cuban dances in London. She dances with the Mandinga Carnival Arts group in outdoor festivals, like the recent Thames Festival or Notting Hill Carnival. Aside from its entertainment and fun factor, Dance Around The World is first and foremost a community festival. By celebrating traditional dance cultures from all parts of the world the festival brings people together – allowing them to learn new cultures and share their own through dance. In two explosively exciting and energetic days of dance, performers and teachers provide a non-stop programme of extraordinary variety.
One of the most striking aspects of this festival is that is made up completely of volunteers and is purely a community driven initiative – something which Elsa shares candidly with Rhoda on the show. Visitors to the event will be able to watch and try for themselves traditional dance forms from all over the world. They will be able to choose from styles as varied as Flamenco, Indian, Hip-Hop, South East European, Tango to name but a few.
The ninth annual Dance Around The World Festival of World Dance will take place on the week-end of 24th - 25th October 2009 in Camden Town.
Watch this vibrant interview on Friday, October 2nd, Sky Channel 184 – BEN TV
