Multi-faith Santas bear gifts for Children's Hospital

Young patients at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital received an early visit from Santa this week as the staff at Ikonz magazine delivered special Christmas presents to their wards.
To mark the arrival of Christmas spirit and festive goodwill, the Ikonz team personally donated Xmas hampers to youngsters at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital this Friday (21st Dec).

Presenting the gift-wrapped toys and confectionery on behalf of the Ikonz team were PR Assistant Ruby Bagry, Senior Graphic Designer Jaspreet Matharu and Deputy Editor Adam Yosef. The hampers were duly accepted by Staff Nurses Sally Dawson and Sarah Hunt.

Adam Yosef, who presented gifts with colleagues, said:
“Christmas is a time of joy and togetherness. It is an occasion of merriment and goodwill. All around the city, there will be people who, for many reasons, will not be able to spend Christmas at home with their families and we at Ikonz magazine wish to do our bit to ensure the young patients at Birmingham Children’s Hospital know they are in our thoughts and don’t feel left out over the festive season.”

For the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, seasonal contributions are a vital part of providing care for poorly children over the holiday season. Other companies who have made gift donations and visits alongside Ikonz magazine this Christmas include The Coca-Cola Company, BMG Research and Two Sisters Food Group, along with Birmingham City and Aston Villa football clubs.

The hospital’s Fundraising Officer, Malcolm Faulkner, said, “On behalf of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, I would like to thank the staff at Ikonz magazine for the wonderful gifts that we received from them today.”

“The toys and games donated from companies and individuals at this time of year makes a huge difference to our patients who need to be in hospital over the Christmas period,” he added.

To create the festive hampers, the Ikonz team gathered gifts by enlisting the help of toy and merchandising companies as well as raising money throughout the year. The entertainment magazine’s sub editor expressed his hopes for the gesture to help unite communities who also have their own religious festivals this month.

“It is also a wonderful opportunity to express a united community spirit with the rest of Birmingham. As a predominantly British-Asian themed magazine, our staff, which include Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jews and Muslims, hope this gesture will quash any notion that non-Christian communities wish to curb festive celebrations as this is clearly not true,” concluded Mr Yosef.

Other festivals celebrated this season include Diwali, Eid and Chanukah.
