The Chardham must be visited from left to right -beginning with Yamunotri, going on to Gangotri, Kedarnath and terminating the journey at Badrinath. This route follows the Hindu tradition of parikrama or clockwise circulation.

The Yamunotri is the source of the river Yamuna. This pilgrimage is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas of India. It contains a temple devoted to Goddess Yamuna. It is at the top of the Bandar Poonch Peak and is situated opposite to Gangotri.

Gangotri is situated in Uttarakhand in the magnificent Garhwal Himalayas. The 6 meters high Gangotri shrine is dressed in white granite stone and is situated on the right bank of the river, Bhagirathi. This 18th century temple is dedicated to the Goddess Ganga

The shrine of Kedarnath is scenically located amidst the majestic mountains of the Garhwal Hills, and is surrounded by high snow covered mountains and grassy meadows covering the valleys. Kedarnath at the head of the Mandakini River is a very sacred pilgrimage of the Hindus. It is located at the height of 11,742 ft (3580 m), is a famous pilgrim site for Lord Shiva devotees.

Finally the Chardham Yatra heads towards Badrinath in Uttarakhand. The temple is surrounded by 2 ranges named ‘Nar’ and ‘Narayan’. The holy temple is surrounded by the mountain ranges and the nearest mountain is known as ‘Neelkantha’ peak. This temple is regarded as ‘the abode of Lord Vishnu’. The temple is situated at the height of 3,133 meters. The temple stands on the banks of river Alakananda. The thermal spring near the temple is one of the major attractions and it is here that the visitors freshen up, earlier than going for the puja.
