Community groups join Premier League footballers at Week of Action launch

Politicians, community groups and representatives of professional football will join Premier League players at the launch of the Kick It Out Week of Action next Tuesday (10th October 2006).
Footballers Marlon Harewood and Chris Powell, and pioneers Luther Blissett, Paul Davis, Paul Elliott and Ricky Hill, will be at the House of Lords to mark the countdown to the biggest series of activities of their type in Europe.

The period between the 17 – 30 October will see over 700 events under the theme of One Game, One Community.

The focus will be on community groups, schools, local authorities, and amateur clubs joining the England team and professional clubs in standing against racism and celebrating community achievement.

England Manager, Steve McClaren, today gave his support;

"The FA and the England team are big supporters of the Kick It Out campaign and will be wholeheartedly behind the week of action.

"The One Game, One Community theme for the week encompasses everything the England team stands for. The work going on at community level is essential and should be celebrated in this way."

Kick It Out Chair, Lord Herman Ouseley, who will host the launch said;

“More than a million people will join hands during the week of action.

“The period will highlight football’s popularity amongst communities stretching the length and breadth of the country and celebrate the power the game has in bringing different people together.

“We hope this show of unity will illustrate how football can lead the way in promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity.”
