In the past year, almost 50 people were killed and hundreds more were injured either crossing the tracks, taking shortcuts, messing around or playing chicken. Network Rail, which is behind the campaign, is running a series of free-to-attend events across England, Wales and Scotland this summer offering young people the chance to try out alternative activities, which – unlike playing on the railway – don’t involve risking injury, disfigurement and death. The tour kicks off in July and runs through the summer holidays and is free to enter for all local children aged ten to sixteen. The event will be centred around sport, games and music and will give young people the opportunity to try out a range of activities from skateboarding to DJ lessons which they will be encouraged to continue after the tour has moved on. There are 10 No Messin’ Live! events taking place throughout the summer at the following locations: Edinburgh Drummond Community High School 6/7 July Glasgow Scotstoun Leisure Centre 10/11 July Cardiff Eastern Leisure Centre 25/26 July Rochdale Hopwood Hall College 31 July / 1 August Crawley HBG Fitness at Oriel High School 3/4 August Wolverhampton Aldersley Leisure Village 8/9 August Stockton Ragworth Neighbourhood Centre 14/15 August East Manchester Manchester Tennis Centre, Sportcity 21/22 August Wandsworth Battersea Technology College 24/25 August Enfield Southbury Leisure Centre 31 August / 1 September |
