The Association seeks to draw in Black professionals from all fields that may feel their lives are far removed from what is happening with regard to the violence on the streets, but in reality can help to provide real solutions that can assist the work of organisations such as the GLA, Metropolitan Police as well as African Caribbean community groups and churches. Dr Nike Folayan, Chairperson for the Association of Black Engineers spoke about the event in more detail: “As an organisation that seeks to challenge and inspire people of black origin to make enhanced contributions to their respective fields, we feel that it is socially responsible for us to look at the issues that are preventing people from achieving this goal, particularly when they effect young people. The event is not a talking shop forum or about reeling off the statistics about gun and knife crime; this is about providing tangible solutions that will work in the communities to tackle the violence on our streets. This is the reason why we will be sharing the solutions from the symposium with the Mayor of London, the Metropolitan Police as well as African Caribbean community groups and churches. In addition, we hope that many of the individuals attending will commit to delivering some of the solutions at a grassroots level.” Anyone that is interested in attending the event can register their interest by emailing Dr Nike Folayan at nike.folayan@afbe.org.uk. |
