Silent Lectures by Mohammed Yahya

Images Video Audio
Mohammed Yahya will be delivering soulful street poetry with hair raising honesty in both Portuguese and English whilst tackling the experiences of being a Black, Mozambican, Portuguese, Muslim male living in England; finding inspiration from African music such as Kizomba, Funana and Marabenta; to Hip Hop.

Born in Mozambique, S.E Africa, Mohammed Yahya was forced to leave the country during civil war. Having moved to Portugal, the young Mohammed Yahya began to show an interest in music, partly due to his fathers influence as a singer. Being surrounded by poverty, Mohammed Yahya used music and poetry to channel his thoughts, energy and emotion in a positive manner. Early Hip Hop influences were from Run DMC and De La Soul, but more broadly Mohammed Yahya drew on influence from African music (Kizomba, Funana, Marabenta), while in Mozambique and after he had moved to Portugal. Later, having moved to London, Mohammed Yahya met Ironbraydz and joined Geneva Konvention.

After Geneva Konvention spilt Mohammed Yahya and Ironbraydz formed Blind Alphabetz, to focus their musical attention on. The conscious and politically charged duo have been likened to Public Enemy among others. Mohammed Yahya, who in the past also studied Buddhism, converted to Islaam following an eye-opening trip to Gambia where he was touched by the peace and unity of the beautiful people he met there. This religious influence is obviously a big influence to Mohammed Yahya when you hear his spiritual rhymes. Mohammed Yahya 's ideology goes further than just his music and he is the first to say that if not involved in hip-hop he would be doing youth work (which he is already involved in) and ¡s trying to liberate enslaved minds through other means¨. With the combination of Mohammed Yahya's wise spiritual rhymes, his healthy attitude to life and his unboundless energy, there is no doubt he is a force not to be reckoned with.
