www.desihits.com announce the highly anticipated launch of Desi Hits! iTunes store catering for South Asian music fans across the globe.
This offering in conjunction with Apple’s iTunes, positions Desi Hits! among an elite group of online specialty music stores, following in the footsteps of NBC, Bravo, Nike and Hot97. iTunes has sold over 2 billion songs, accounting for more than 80% of worldwide online digital music sales. The new Desi Hits!-iTunes storefront compiles South Asian artists, music and podcasts in one shop; making it simpler than before to search by genre, artist, song, album, or film title. The catalogue currently includes Bollywood, Bhangra, urban Desi fusion, Desi hip hop and R&B, as well as World beats and popular mainstream hits. The site specially serves as a filter for audiences, as well as a spotlight for emerging talent, by featuring select artists and soundtracks through exclusive releases, special promotions, shows and podcasts. The first top 10 Desi billboard chart based on international sales, tracking the most popular tunes is coming soon. Jay Sean, Rishi Rich, Raghav, other performers and labels are leveraging these innovative Web 2.0 tactics to increase their global exposure.

Co-founder and CEO Anjula Acharia-Bath, is ecstatic about their role as content producers for iTunes. She explains, “Exposing audiences to Desi artists worldwide, providing a mainstream platform to promote talent and legitimate sales, satisfying our fans’ requests for fresh tracks, and creating a sense of community are just some of the reasons we at Desi Hits! love what we do.”

The company has evolved rapidly since its humble beginnings as a blog in December 2005. Today, Desi Hits! is one of the fastest growing South Asian websites according to Alexa Ratings. Desi Hits! is ranked the # 1 most popular Desi podcast on iTunes with ¾ Million downloads. And, was recently voted one of the “top 100 digital entertainment companies to watch for” by AlwaysOn Hollywood 2007. With funding from prestigious Bay area venture capital firms (who also backed Hotmail, Skype and Baidu), an impressive board of entertainment executives and strategic partnerships, Desi Hits! has validated its viability in mainstream circles as well. In addition to the branded iTunes store, the multimedia South Asian entertainment portal is rich in aggregated and original content covering entertainment appealing to the next generation Desi, available on demand. Music is the focus, with renowned deejays spinning the latest songs on podcasts, streaming video clips, artist profiles, celebrity interviews and Bollywood gossip, blogs and forums, a free embeddable player and user-generated shows.

Desi Hits! is building a vibrant community that interacts online, provides comments and feedback, shares music tastes and importantly can now discover, download, and purchase music that was once difficult to locate. Desi music and entertainment-lovers are cordially invited to explore what’s happening at www.desihits.com, and Desi artists and aspiring show hosts with origins or ties to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives are encouraged to contact yo@desihits.com to get into the mix.
