'Meditations on the Upanishads' & talks on 'The Yoga of Meditation'

A 5-day morning course: ‘Meditations on the Upanishads’ & Evening Talks on ‘The Yoga of Meditation’ in London (Ch 6 Bhagavad Geeta)

All talks are in English
Meditation classes are not unusual or rare to come by in the UK, but in the present day culture of instant coffee, food-on-the-go and high-speed travel, city-dwellers often seek to escape the mayhem using such techniques with the expectation of instant results. Meditation on the whole is perceived as a means of relieving stress. Rarely is it understood to be not a process but an effortless awareness of one’s true nature - the Self. However, even with this knowledge, when the mind is unprepared what results is more agitation than meditation.

‘Meditations on the Upanishads’ is a course presented by Chinmaya Mission UK that explores the theme of meditation in its true sense. It is based on teachings from the Upanishads, India’s ancient philosophical and contemplative texts. By reflecting on their subtle meaning, the mind becomes silenced and one can enter into the depths of meditation. In these sessions, Swami Swaroopananda will explore the Truth and lead attendees in guided meditation so that they may experience for themselves the peace described in these ancient verses.

Few men are called to serve humanity the way Swami Swaroopananda does. Following the footsteps of his great spiritual mentor Swami Chinmayananda, the Founder of Chinmaya Mission , he has spent over twenty years travelling the world, touching the lives of tens of thousands. He is renowned for his practical approach to spirituality that fuses Vedanta (The ancient spiritual wisdom of India) with modern management techniques and he has been invited to speak before many large multinational companies, including Ford and Credit Suisse . He has also lectured in universities such as Harvard and London School of Economics. He is the Regional head of Chinmaya Mission UK, Australia, Far-East and Director in charge of the Chinmaya International Residential School in Coimbatore, India.

‘Meditations on the Upanishads’ from 2nd -6th September 2008 (7am-8am daily) at Chinmaya Kirti, 2 Egerton Gardens, Hendon NW4 4BA (7 minute walk from Hendon Central tube station). £100 registration fee including materials.

Swami Swaroopananda is also conducting talks on on the ‘Yoga of Meditation’ (based on Chapter 6 of the Bhagavad Geeta ) from 1st -6th September ( 7.30pm -9pm daily) at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London, W8 7NX. (Nearest Tube: High Street Kensington) The Geeta is a timeless spiritual scripture whose lessons are relevant to all regardless of faith or background. It teaches us techniques for discovering the happiness that is our inner nature and, through living its principles; we taste for ourselves a life of peace and contentment. Admission is Free and Talks are in English.

Chinmaya Mission was founded by the great Vedantic Master Swami Chinmayananda - the impetus behind these various events. It is a worldwide organisation that teaches the ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta, the Science of Oneness. Those who attend and serve within the charity do so with the aim of maximising their potential and becoming positive contributors to society. The science of Vedanta has inspired thousands of people in the West, from poet W.B. Yeats to Jazz legend John Coltrane and rock giant Jimmi Hendrix.

The press/media are invited to cover the events mentioned above. Please contact Trishna Gulrajani for more information on 07958 687 457 / 07939 154 964 or send an e-mail to pr@chinmayauk.org.
