Lift Yourself: ‘A meeting of enquiring minds’
A one-day conference for students & young professionals
31st August 2008, UCL Institute of Child Health, London
British Asian students and young professionals from across the UK will come together on 31st August in London for a unique one-day event.

‘Lift Yourself’ is for those who may have a successful career, social life and relationship – but still feel there is a void. It is a meeting of enquring minds that delve a little deeper and question what the purpose of life is.

Ancient texts from the East, whether they be in the form of the Bhagavad Gita or from the Zen or Taoist traditions; provide universal and timeless answers to such questions. ‘Lift Yourself’ is a day of lectures and interactive workshops that puts this knowledge into the context of modern-day living, and brings together young successful individuals to ponder upon and discuss these themes.

The event will be led by Swami Swaroopananda, who has spent over twenty years travelling the world, touching the lives of tens of thousands. Following the footsteps of his great spiritual mentor Swami Chinmayananda, the Founder of Chinmaya Mission, he is renowned for his practical approach to spirituality that fuses Vedanta (The ancient spiritual wisdom of India) with modern management techniques. He has been invited to speak before many large multinational companies, including Ford and Credit Suisse. He has also lectured in universities such as Harvard and the London School of Economics.

Brahmacharini Sumati Chaitanya will also be leading sessions on the day. She is the London-based representative for Chinmaya Mission activities in the UK.

‘Lift Yourself’ has been organised by a group of dynamic and inspired young British Asians ranging from doctors, and accountants, to journalists and lawyers… who believe there is more to life than work and play. They belong to CHYK, the youth wing of Chinmaya Mission UK, registered charity: 1077622 www.chinmayauk.org

Chinmaya Mission is a worldwide organisation that teaches the ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta. Those who attend and serve within the charity do so with the aim of maximising their potential and becoming positive contributors to society.

There is a growing trend amongst many second and third generation Asians who have grown up in the West seeking to rediscover the ancient principles underlying Eastern culture. In fact the science of Vedanta has inspired thousands of people in the West, from poet W.B. Yeats to Jazz legend John Coltrane and rock giant Jimi Hendrix.

‘Lift Yourself’ is expected to be attended by a majority of British Asians, but is open to all.

The press/media are invited to cover this event. Please contact Milan for more information on 07957 568 879 or Sachin on 07855 820 202 or e-mail chyk@chinmayauk.org. Interviews with the youth organisers, delegates and spiritual teachers can be arranged.
