Ramsay and Scottish Curry Awards Team Up To Tackle Spina Bifida

Images Video Audio
The Scottish Spina Bifida Association has an unlikely hero to help tackle the problems associated with spina bifida, hydrocephalus and its related conditions. Since its inception in 2008 the Scottish Curry Awards have raised over £14,600 for the association and 2010’s Love Curry presents The Scottish Curry Awards promises to be no different.
This year the awards are being held on the 10th May at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow with all funds raised on the evening going to The Scottish Spina Bifida Association. Among the range of awards on offer is Chef of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, Restaurant of the Year and Curry Lover of the Year, which in 2009 went to First Minister, Alex Salmond.

Multi Michelin and BAFTA award winning international chef Gordon Ramsay OBE has said "as Honorary Patron of the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, I am delighted that they have been chosen as the nominated charity of the 2010 Scottish Curry Awards. The Association support over 3000 children, young people and adults in Scotland affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Both conditions cause complex disabilities of which there is no known cure. With less than 20k statutory funding, the Association needs to raise over £800k every year to continue supporting all those who need help, and are, therefore, delighted to be benefiting from the awards.”

Ramsay has had a long love affair with curry and Indian Cuisine starting when he was just a child growing up in Scotland, “I’ve been fascinated by Indian cuisine ever since my mum took me for a curry when I was a child, and a few months ago, I flew to Delhi to film Gordon’s Great Escape and became an apprentice to various Indian chefs. It was a truly inspirational experience and I came across the most amazing combinations of tastes and flavours. This evening, by combining food and fundraising, you have a guaranteed recipe for success and I wish all nominees the best of luck and thank everyone who donates to my favourite Scottish charity."

Nominations began in February and are still open. To vote for your favourite restaurant, chef, takeaway or if you know someone who takes the love of curry to a whole new level nomination forms can be found at www.lovecurry.info or you can post your nominations to The Scottish Curry Awards, Polar House, 20 Darnley Street, Glasgow, G41 2SE
