Ashton’s Indian Ocean restaurant is delighted to announce that they have won the award for ‘Best Indian Restaurant in the North West 2007’ at this year’s British Curry Awards. The prestigious award, based on nominations from members of the public, recognizes the high quality of food, standards of service and the overall dining experience at the Indian Ocean.
The ceremony, which is the biggest event in the curry calendar, took place on Sunday night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Hosted by Chris Tarrant, there were more than 1100 guests including MP’s, diplomats and celebrities. Tory leader David Cameron recorded a personal video message for the ceremony in which he paid tribute to “the tremendous contribution the British Spice industry makes to our country.”
Five of the Indian Ocean team traveled down to the ceremony together with the restaurant’s owner Nahim Aslam. They were competing against four other finalists shortlisted from the region all of whom had won through as the best nominees from the hundreds of curry restaurants in the North West.
After winning the award Nahim commented “I am absolutely delighted that the Indian Ocean team has won. This is the third time this year we have been given an award for the quality of our curries and the British Curry Awards are the most important recognition of excellence in the UK’s Indian food industry. My team works hard both in the kitchen and at the front of house to ensure our customers have a really good night out and fantastic food whenever they visit. I am very proud of all of them.
We intend to continue to offer old favourites alongside dishes that give the true taste of the Indian sub continent. Many of our recipes date back hundreds of years and are specially prepared by our team of 12 chefs. We want to make sure we can win the award again next year.”
