URBAN SCREEN shows 1 DAY at THE LEXI

Images Video Audio
URBAN SCREEN will be holding its second event at The Lexi Cinema on 8th December at 6pm.
The main feature will be exciting controversial feature 1 DAY - directed by Penny Woolock. Dylan Duffus will take part in a Q&A.
Shot on location in Birmingham, but then banned by the authorities. 1 DAY is a high octane caper through a day in the life of an inner city hustler. The film follows Flash (Dylan Duffus) whose day gets steadily worse when he finds out he suddenly has to repay a debt to his big head, Angel (Yohance Watson), and he has to find the money fast. As more and more people get on his case and the clock starts ticking, Flash is pursued by everyone from a rival gang, the police, three irate babymothers and his granny.
This is an entirely street cast film. It features original hip hop and grime tracks, as well as gospel, reggae and spirituals – making it the first ever British hip hop film. While Flash gets robbed, harassed and shot at, the film explores life for many young men in the Afro-Caribbean community which originated the urban music at its heart.
Most notably Duffus, who originates from the streets in Birmingham, was instrumental in planning and directing the feature.
We will be featuring Duffus and Watson for a Q&A session.
The accompanying shorts will be ARENA & THE TEST.
ARENA is the Cannes Palme d’Or winning short of 2009 by young director Joao Salaviza, and tells the story of a boy on house arrest, who occupies his time by doing tattoes whilst taunted by other boys. A must see!
THE TEST is produced by the Video College in Ladbroke Grove. Set up to convert youngsters into the creative industries this short film tells the story of a young girl’s worries as she tests for pregnancy.
Our Q&As are renowned for their active debate and are an important place to meet filmmakers.
