Images of Black Women Film Festival unveils its programme for 2009! At the Tricycle Theatre for the consecutive 5th year.
Six exciting films forms this year’s festival from the 27th- 29th March including a short film competition and a film documentary workshop.

Images of Black Women Film Festival which is funded by UK Film Council and Film London focuses on the Women of African Descent in cinema. Showing over the weekend of 27th-29th March screenings include film made, produced, directed or featuring black women in prominent roles and include “From a Whisper”, “Secret Life of Bees”, “Afro Saxons” and “Johnny Mad Dog”. The screening will include Q&A segments with directors, producers and actresses. The educational element of the festival will be a “Documentary Workshop” by the industry renowned DFG.

The Secret Life of Bees starring Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Oscar nominated actress Sophie Okonedo the Director by Gina Prince-Bythewood, based on best seller by Sue Monk.

Hair Piece is an animated depiction of the antics performed by many black women in an effort to control their hair.
Also by Akoya Chenzika, Alma's Rainbow"-a hip urban sitcom. The struggle between her live-for-the-moment manner sets an example for both mother and daughter, allowing Alma to take a Rainbow’s transition from a street-dancing tomboy into a more sexually self-assured young woman .Q & A with Akoya Chenzika.
AfroSaxons: An entertaining and engaging documentary giving an insight into the world of Afro hair politics. The film follows four hair stylists preparing to create bold and innovative Afro styles for the Black Beauty Hair. Q&A Panel with Dir Rachel Wang!

Johnny Mad Dog, Winner of the Cannes Film Festival 2008, Prize of Hope Award closes the festival is an emotive film that tells the chilling tale of the phenomenon of the child soldier, and the effect his actions has on the strong central female character - Laokole after Johnny's "men" raid her town. Dir Jean- Stephane Sauvaire.
Independent Film Competition.
Out of over 40 entries 12 finalists were sifted, and the winner will be presented with her coveted prize of her film being shown and receipt of her prize money!
Noted Judges Include representatives from: BBC, Channel Four, Lionsgate Films, UK Film Council, Film London, Time Out, Actors, and a viewing panel representative.
