Sometimes what seems to be a strange mix, can actually totally make sense, whether it's Cuban rumba with Bengali folk, or Afrobeat played on Asian and Latin instruments, or Brazillian Samba with Indian classical. Lokkhi Terra demonstrates this process of mixing which surrounds them in London. Bengalis, English, Cubans, Brazilians and Nigerians all living in the same city, playing on the same stages, creating new soundscapes which give London a new accent and a new groove. Cuban percussion is woven together with Tabla drums and a super tight horn section, funky drums and bass giving it a real London groove. Bandleader Kishon Khan lays down the melodies on keys and Bengali singers Aneire Khan, Sohini Alam front the band with their soulful vocals around the intoxicating brew of Afro-Latin rhythms. The band has just returned from huge Asian tour, and last summer they tore up the London festival circuit with a string of breathtaking gigs. This show announces their debut album 'No Visa Required' with a sensational live show and special guests on the night. |
