Speaking about the announcement Amir said: “It is an honour to be appointed an NSPCC ambassador and it is a role I will take very seriously. I am lucky that I have always had friends and family around me, encouraging me to follow my dreams - some children just dream of a life free from abuse and cruelty. I hope my appointment will encourage more children to have confidence to speak out and believe in themselves.” NSPCC Director Dame Mary Marsh, said: “We are delighted that Amir has chosen to support us. He has a natural empathy with children and young people and will be a dedicated and hardworking ambassador.” Amir can be viewed talking about his ambassadorship, the impact of boxing on his life and his hopes for the future through a vodcast which can be downloaded from the NPSCC website www.nspcc.org.uk Amir has supported the NSPCC since 2004 and has been involved in both fundraising and awareness raising campaigns*. In his ambassadorial role Amir will work closely with the NSPCC’s schools teams to ensure children understand what abuse is, are encouraged to speak out about abuse, and know where they can get help should they need it. Amir joins pop stars Kylie Minogue and Peter Andre, fellow sporting heroes Jonny Wilkinson and Alan Shearer, and Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones as an NSPCC ambassador. |
