Canary Wharf based international humanitarian aid charity Doctors of the World UK is calling for runs to join the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon team. The marathon will take place on October 10th 2010 and see over 12,500 participants enjoying a superb view of famous monuments such as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Marble Arch, the London Eye and the Royal Albert Hall along the way.
The funds raised will be used to provide medical care to vulnerable people through our projects around the world who are touched by natural disasters like the recent earthquake in Haiti, conflict, like our ongoing emergency mission in Iraq, or extreme poverty like our HIV/AIDS prevention project in Myanmar (Burma). As well as helping those further a field, Doctors of the World also runs projects in developed countries, including here in London, where our volunteer led Project:London clinic helps marginalised people who cannot access mainstream healthcare services.

Why should runners register with DOW UK?
•1 mile = £25 could pay for treatments for 2 people infected by malaria the vaccinations kits need to protect them from life-threatening diseases
•3 mile = £100 could give food and shelter to ten children who are victims of the war in DRC
•6 mile = £200 could pay for a "Smarter than AIDS" kit to protect dozens of teenage street sex workers in Burma(Myanmar)
•9 mile = £300 could change two children's lives through cleft lip surgery
•13.5 mile= £450 could pay for a measles vaccination for 4400 children.
Participants pay a £30 registration fee then pledge to raise a minimum of £450 in sponsorship funds.

Deadline for registration: 20 August 2010
