The World Cup is now over and the nation’s football fever may be coming to a close, however, for Action for Children Scotland and PG Paper their fundraising footie-fever is set to continue into 2011.

Action for Children Scotland’s annual Sports Dinner and Charity Cup is sponsored by PG Paper, one of Scotland’s biggest exporters. The events were held prior to the World Cup kick off, and raised over £27,000 for the charity. Radio Clyde’s Peter Martin hosted the Sports Dinner and kept the attendees entertained along with guest speaker, Celtic and Scotland legend, Frank McAvennie.
Action for Children Scotland's Partnership Fundraising Manager, Grant McFarlane, delighted with the support for the Charity Cup and Sports Dinner, now in the 7th year, said: “PG Paper Ltd have been very supportive of the events this year and we are looking forward to continuing to work them in the future, to build on the events and increase the profile of the charity and our fundraising efforts for vulnerable and neglected children and young people in Scotland.”

Speaking after the events, PG Paper founder and sponsor of both, The Sports Dinner and The Charity Cup, Action for Children Scotland’s 5-a-side tournament, Poonam Gupta said “We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves; there were lots of comical moments and some great sports tales which set the whole room off laughing. Everyone was there to have a good time but also to show their support for the work of Action for Children Scotland and we raised a great deal of money for them in the process.

“We get involved with charities all over the world but with Action for Children Scotland being right on our doorstop we felt it was something we could really get onboard with and support. The events proved to be a great success and we have definite plans to continue this into 2011. It’s just a case of turning our provisional diary entries into solid plans.”

PG Paper Company Ltd was established by husband and wife team Puneet and Poonam Gupta in 2003. Salvaging, and finding uses for industrial commodities that would normally go to waste or landfill, and recycling, is central to business for PG Paper, who work from their base in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire. The company – now a truly global exporter, with its operations spread across all continents – has established itself as one of the biggest exporters in Scotland with projections for a further 100% growth in the next few years.

Action for Children is one of Scotland’s leading children’s charities and supports and speaks out for the most vulnerable children and young people in Scotland and throughout the UK. It runs more than 60 services across Scotland to help 8000 of the country’s most disadvantaged children and young people.
