100 Black Men of London fundraising gala at Institute of Directors

The 'Audacity of Hope', which took the new president elect Barack Obama all the way to the White House, is the theme for 100 Black Men of London's fundraising gala scheduled for the evening of Saturday 22nd November 2008.
The prestigious Institute of Directors on Pall Mall in the West End will be the venue for this charity’s major funding event for 2008.

As well as a delicious dining and top quality entertainment and dancing, the event will raise funds for the extensive range of 100 Black Men of London’s community programmes, which include healthcare and financial programmes, mentoring and education through film. The charity will also showcase the achievements of this year with a special slot for the young people to talk to guests and journalists at the fundraiser about how they have benefited from our programmes.

Actor and playwright Kwame Kwie Armarh will be comparing this black tie affair, which promises to be one of the most memorable evenings of this year. Performances on the night, will include amongsts others, children currently benefitting from the work of 100 Black Men's programmes, that organisers affectionately refer to as ‘our Diamonds'.

The theme for the evening ‘ The Audacity of Hope', is also the subject of an essay competition has been held among 100 BML mentees. The children have written essays on the importance and the effect that hope has had in their lives and in the world and the winning entry will be read out by the author on the gala event.

‘We believe in the power of optimism and dare to pursue and realize our dreams. Our children must be encouraged to have faith in themselves and believe in their own ability to grow and proper into their glorious future.' Olu Alake president of 100 Black Men of London said.

100 Black Men of London is run by a collection of educated professional black men who because of their concern about the social and economic inequities faced by the community, pooled their collective resources to seek to improve the quality of life economic and educational opportunities available to young black Londoner's.

Entertainment on the night includes saxophonist YolanDa Brown, winner of the best Jazz Mobo awards 2008.

The RnB sensation, Cuziano whose track 'Hold On' was London's Summer Jam of 2008. There will also be comedy from The Big Man of Comedy-Geoff Schumann as well as spoken word and poetry performances and a raffle and auction.
