CHARITY

Oxfam Unwrapped charity gifts are ideal for Eid and support communities in Pakistan and Bangladesh

This year Oxfam Unwrapped is offering two new charitable gifts which are ideal for Eid because they offer people the chance to give a gift as well as giving to charity. The gifts support Oxfam’s programme work with communities living in poverty in Pakistan and in Bangladesh, and make a real difference to people's lives.
Oxfam’s Nicolette Barton said: ‘Around Eid people often ask how they can make a donation to Oxfam’s work in particular countries. We are really excited that we can now offer these new country gifts, which give people the opportunity to support our vital work in both Pakistan and Bangladesh at the same time as giving a gift to a friend or family member.’

Through the Pakistan Country Gift your gift will support projects which focus on education, health, and on tackling violence against women. The gift also funds emergency relief, such as Oxfam’s response to the devastating 2005 earthquake. Oxfam began work immediately after the quake struck, providing water and sanitation for the thousands of people made homeless. Oxfam built latrines and distributed buckets for water storage, and in makeshift camps like Maira we installed water tanks and tap stands .

The Bangladesh Country Gift funds projects focusing on women’s equality and on helping people to make a secure living. It also funds Oxfam’s vital disaster risk reduction work in areas such as the Ganges River Basin, where we help communities to prepare fo r the often devastating effects of monsoon floods. This preparedness work, which can make the difference between life and death, includes funding rescue boats which save stranded families, and where possible are also used to salvage livestock, houses and possessions.

And for people looking for something a little different this Eid why not buy an Oxfam Unwrapped goat? These trusty animals are bought locally, and are distributed in many of the countries Oxfam works in around the world. They can become a vital and sustainable asset for a family, providing milk, fertiliser and ultimately kids to add to their herd.
