International Christian aid charity, Liberty - Making People Free, calls for sponsors for Marathon run

The international Christian aid charity 'Liberty - Making People Free' has put out a call for to sponsors to back one of their supporters taking in part in one the UK's leading road races this weekend.
In a bid to raise much needed funds for the charity’s overseas aid work, Phillip Jinadu, has set up a fundraising page through Just Giving.com, (http://www.justgiving.com/philipjinadu) where people can pledge their support for this work by sponsoring this Sunday’s 14th September.

Jinadu decided to take part in this year’s Reebok Bristol Half Marathon in the hope of raising thousands of pounds for the charitable aid agency that works in remote villages where the majority of people do not have access to clean running water, electricity supplies or the means to travel the nearest city.

Established in 1999 the charity works in may isolated rural villages across west Africa, providing education, free health care, clean water to whole communities.

From it’s inception, the achievements of Liberty’s have been accomplished largely through the support of volunteers from the UK and west Africa and from their financial support and donations.

Sponsoring this weekend’s run opens up the opportunity for many more people to impact on the lives of the poor in rural Africa by financially supporting Liberty – Making People Free’s work.

Since the charity was established in 1999 they have built sixty village churches, primary schools, provided bursaries for further education, established adult literacy classes, agricultural empowerment programmes, and free healthcare in places where normally those without the money to pay for healthcare have to go without.

Last year alone, with the help of a team of volunteer medics, sixty people who live in villages so remote that they do not have the means to travel to the cities, received free cataract operations using the latest laser technology.

The Reebok Bristol Half Marathon is one of the UK’s leading road races. The race is now one of the largest and most popular half marathons in the country growing from 1,000 runners in 1989 to 15,000 place.

The race takes place on Sunday 14th September 2008 at Bristol City Centre and runs for 13.1 Miles.

Phillip Jinadu said, ‘I've never done anything like this before, but believe that, with your help, we can make a difference. and it's an absolutely incredible charity. Thousands of lives have been changed - thousands more could be affected by this contribution. We could build schools, sink wells, fund operations and transform communities.

Please join with me to do some good in the world. If 100 people could sponsor me just £20 I'd hit my target. Even better, UK taxpayers automatically get a 28% Gift Aid bonus , Of course, you can give more than £20 if you like’.
