Tens of thousands of people lost their lives to Cyclone Sidr that hit Bangladesh in November last year. In total, an estimated 7 million people have been affected. This is a humanitarian disaster for a country that has been ravaged by floods over recent years. The people in Bangladesh need our help urgently to rebuild what they have lost and give them a chance for the future. Over 50 Bangladeshi restaurants in Surrey are holding a fundraising event in which they are hoping to raise enough money to help the worst affected villages by providing them with livestock, fishing equipment and boats. The aim is to give these villages a chance to help themselves in the long term by providing them with the essentials to start work again and raise income. The event is to raise money to rebuild housing, schools and obtaining fresh and safe drinking water.
“We are thrilled by the support of the local restaurant community - with so many restaurants signed up for the evening and more joining all the time” says Shah Malik of the Bangladeshi Catering Association ”Now all we need is for the people of Surrey to come along to the evening -- we guarantee a fantastic night for all. We are aiming to raise between £50,000 and £100,000 to help rebuild these communities. Please come along and give us the chance to make a real difference to people's lives."
