No Smoking Day charity has new campaign head for a ‘fresh start’

The No Smoking Day charity has recruited a new campaign manager in time for the launch of the ‘make a fresh start’ campaign for 14th March 2007 - No Smoking Day.

Vishnee Sauntoo joined the charity last week after working four and a half years for the fertility regulator – the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and before that on controversial issues such as abortion and sexual health. Vishnee manages a campaign officer and various freelancers and reports to the Chief Executive, Ben Youdan.

The charity, No Smoking Day, has created this new role to raise the profile of the organisation and to focus on strategic communications for No Smoking Day’s its big priority – smokefree England on 1st July 2007 and beyond.

Ben Youdan, Chief Executive of No Smoking Day, said:

“We are delighted that Vishnee is joining No Smoking Day with her vast experience and knowledge of media relations on high profile issues. Vishnee joins us at a significant time in the tobacco control sector and our aim is to push awareness and support, for those looking to stop smoking, to the next level.

“For the last five years, we have seen a year on year increase in the numbers of people giving up smoking. We want to make the most of the opportunity that Smokefree brings.”

Vishnee Sauntoo, Campaign Manager of No Smoking Day, said:

“I’m very exciting about joining No Smoking Day particularly because it is the run up to Day itself. My role is to think more strategically about how we want to communicate especially once England goes smokefree in July.”
