Royal invitation for BME Business Forum

Sheffield’s BME Business Forum has been given a Royal seal of approval after its leaders met with Prince Andrew.
Forum coordinator Bernadette Grocock and members of the forum steering group met the Duke of York when he came to Sheffield in his role as Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.

Bernadette and steering group members Hakim Wais (chairman), Baqul Popat (vice chairman), Janice Young and Ramzi Aweimrin were invited to the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire’s dinner at Sheffield Town Hall with Prince Andrew.

The members of the forum, which is backed by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, talked about their work and their hopes for the future.

Said Bernadette: “It was a real honour to be invited to meet Prince Andrew and to discuss the work of the forum.

“I think it’s a testament to the work and progress of the forum that our reputation has become so far reaching and we are being invited to key events such as this.

“We’ve made incredible progress to date and intend to build on this to help more and more BME businesses in the area.”

The BME Forum was set up in partnership between the Chamber, the Black Community Forum, Yorkshire Forward and Business Link South Yorkshire (BLSY) and acts as the strategic body of local BME businesses and entrepreneurs. The aim is to influence change through contribution to Sheffield’s economy and the development of communities.

BME Forum membership provides a wide range of networking opportunities and benefits designed to further business development, as well as offering guidance on funding opportunities and other services available.

Continued Bernadette: “The more people that see the positive steps we’re taking, the better and for the Lord Lieutenant to invite us personally to his dinner with Prince Andrew is a testament to the strides that the forum has already taken.”
