Awards Show Teams Up With Hospices of Scotland

Images Video Audio
The Hospices of Scotland is the official charity partner for Scotland’s first ever Scottish Independent Retail Awards. Hosted by music and showbiz columnist, Beverley Lyons, the event is being held at Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel on Friday 10th September 2010.
Organised by Creative Oceanic, the event will recognise how local businesses play a part within their local community. The aim of the Scottish Independent Retail Awards 2010 is to highlight the value of independent retailers to the communities and country they operate within; showcasing the diversity within the industry, recognising and rewarding the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen which lies behind thriving independent retailers.

The Hospices of Scotland benefiting from this event are: The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, St. Columbus Hospice in Edinburgh, Ayrshire Hospice in Ayr, Highland Hospice in Inverness, and St. Andrew’s Hospice in Lanarkshire. The aim of each institution is to improve the quality of life in people with progressive and far-advanced illnesses as well as to provide support for their families. The Scottish Independent Retail Awards is the first event that the five hospices have come together under the one banner of Hospices of Scotland.

Each hospice’s services are free, regardless of patients’ circumstances. As registered charities, they rely on the generosity of the supporters for more than two-thirds of their funding.

Judi Farrell, Senior Fundraiser at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice said: “We are delighted to be working with the Scottish Independent Retail Awards and their members, who play an important and active role in their local communities. The Hospices of Scotland specialist palliative care teams work within these communities to provide invaluable care and support to patients and carers in their own homes, making this partnership a great reflection of how community based services can work together to benefit each other.”
