Queen’s Birthday Honour For Minority Ethnic Business Leader

Members of the West Midlands Minority Ethnic Business Forum, at their latest quarterly Board meeting, congratulated the Chair, Mohammad Nazir, upon receiving the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Mohammad, who has been Chair of the Forum since 2003, was awarded the honour for his services to business. His considerable private and public sector experience comes from active involvement in businesses.

Having served on the National Ethnic Minority Ministerial Forum, representing the needs of small businesses, focusing on issues affecting disadvantaged groups, Mohammad is the Forum's representative on the West Midlands Regional Enterprise Board, a member of the Regional International Business Group, and a Regional Champion for Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Mohammad is a Business Development Director of one of Europe's leading ethnic food retail businesses based in Birmingham. He also leads on Islamic Finance for the Region and has been appointed to the Board of the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority, his role being to help determine policy for health care across the region.

Thanking Forum members for their comments, Mohammad said: “This is not something you achieve on your own – and I regard it as an honour for everyone whom I work with at the Forum.”

Other OBE awards went to Janti Champaneri, lately Senior Manager, Adult & Communities Directorate, Birmingham City Council, for services to local government. Robin Frank Landman, of Wolverhampton, Chief Executive Officer, Network for Black Professionals, for services to Black and Minority Ethnic Further Education. AWM Board member Angela Maxwell, Managing Director, Acuwomen, for services to business in the West Midlands. Nelson Olawale Ogunshakin, of Halesowen, Chief Executive, Association for Consultancy & Engineering, for services to the construction and engineering industry.

Sally Arkley, of Coventry, Director, Women’s Business Development Agency, for services to women’s enterprise. Sajid Hashmi, for services to the voluntary sector in Stoke-on-Trent. William Guy Shubra Hordern, for services to community relations in Birmingham. Jehangir Malik, for services to Islamic Relief. Mrs Essie Nell Lewis for voluntary services to older African and Caribbean people in Wolverhampton. Sharon Palmer, Chief Executive, Regional Action West Midlands, for services to the Third Sector.
