Enterprising women shine at Precious Awards

Images Video Audio
The best Black and Asian female entrepreneurs in the UK have been recognised at the 2008 Precious Awards.
Natasha Faith and Semhal Zemikael of luxury designer brand, La Diosa, were named the 2008 Precious Entrepreneurs of the Year. The prize is awarded to the business that the judges feel has overcome significant challenges to achieve outstanding business success.

Other winners included Samata Angel of Samata's Muse, who was awarded Young Entrepreneur of the Year and bespoke tailor Imtaz Khaliq, London's first female tailor. Nike Folayan of engineering and development consultancy, Mott Macdonald UK, took home the Inspiring Leader within the Workplace award.

The event sponsored by Pearson plc and The FEAT project, was opened by Jennette Arnold, the Leader of the London Assembly and attracted support from David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party, Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Baroness Amos who all sent messages of congratulations to the finalists.

Foluke Akinlose, founder of Precious Online Magazine and Network and the Precious Awards said: "The Awards are about creating role models, raising the profile of female entrepreneurs and encouraging other women to start their own businesses. The contribution that ethnic entrepreneurs make to the British economy is significant, and we want to acknowledge and celebrate that fact. "

Abu Bundu-Kamara, Diversity Manager UK, Pearson PLC said: "Our support for the Precious Awards is about recognising talent and diversity in whatever form it takes. We were delighted to be part of this key event, which acknowledges the skills, ambition and success of Black and Asian women in the UK. As ever, Precious is a fantastic partner to work with and we look forward to many more years of collaboration."

The event was hosted by Hannah Pool, Guardian columnist and the author of Penguin best-seller ‘My Father’s Daughter’ and Rasheed Ogunlaru, UK top life coach, speaker, commentator (ITN, BBC) and business coach.
