Cab Safe Security Solutions has won exclusive distribution rights in the UK and Ireland to install and distribute a protective screen for private hire vehicles that protects drivers from the risk of attack from rear seat passengers. The screen, manufactured in Spain, is designed for a range of popular private hire vehicles and protects from floor to roof level. Cab Safe based on the Cadec Trading Estate at Smethwick in the Black Country has already gained licensing approval in Birmingham and is in the process of securing approval from local authorities throughout the West Midlands and other parts of the UK. The Lord Mayors of Birmingham and Sandwell were at the Cab Safe launch with guests including security experts, taxi operators and licensing chiefs. Councillor Chauhdry Abdul Rashid, Lord Mayor of Birmingham and the Lord Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Robert Price wished Cab Safe well and praised the product for increasing the safety of taxi drivers. “Drivers are constantly at threat from aggressive and anti-social behaviour from passengers. Assaults of varying levels of severity and non-payment of fares are regular occurrences and too often regarded by drivers as an “occupational hazard,” said Hussan Ahktar, managing director of the business. “They are particularly vulnerable to attack from passengers sitting in the back seat. Our screen will protect drivers, give them peace of mind and deter fares that may have mischief in mind. “We launch in the West Midlands where there are 20,000 private hire taxis and then take the operation nationwide where there are an estimated 300,000 private hire vehicles.” |
