Getting Intimate with Author Kia Abdullah

Images Video Audio
A second chance to meet the author of sexy new crime thriller, Child’s Play.
After the successful launch of Child’s Play last month, author Kia Abdullah will be meeting readers on a more intimate level at a special reading on Saturday 30th January. The December launch drew an audience of 60, comprising long-term fans, aspiring writers and avid bookworms, resulting in a Q&A session that was twice as long as Kia’s 15-minute talk. Fans wanted to know everything from the title of Kia’s next book to whether she was looking for someone to marry!

Post-talk, Kia signed books and spent a short while talking to fans, but says that it wasn’t long enough: “I had a few people email me after the talk saying they felt uncomfortable monopolising my time, but that’s not how I felt at all. I really enjoy talking to readers and hearing what they like – and indeed dislike – about my work. This second talk is designed to be more intimate with more time scheduled for interacting with readers on a personal level.”

Child’s Play, Kia’s second book, has been praised for moving away from the literary novels and misery memoirs that Asian writers have become known for. The blurb on her website perhaps describes it best: “Child’s Play isn’t what you would expect from a British-Asian, Muslim, female writer. Instead of a paprika-laden story about marriage and identity, Kia has written a novel that shatters the delicate sensibilities governing output from Asian writers.”

Meet this little firebrand on Saturday 30th January, 2pm, at Idea Store Bow, 1 Gladstone Place, Roman Road, London E3 5ES.
