Chandani Persaud crowned Miss Trinidad and Tobago UK

Miss Trinidad and Tobago cultural showcase and pageant was held at the Hammersmith Palais, London on the 24th September 2006 the show was held under the patronage of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner Her Excellency Mrs Glenda Morean Phillip.
Chandani Persaud of North London won the judges hearts and audience and walked away with the crown and also Miss photogenic. Carivog International managed by Angela Cox, Sheanna Alleyne and Valerie Noreiga hold this Cultural Showcase the 4th year. The main sponsors of this event were Trinidad and Tobago Tourism Board UK division, Western Union, Cascada Hotel -Trinidad, The New Nations Newspaper, Caribbean Times, Capital life Photography, Pamela Price of Wessex House Night Club and The Inn Collection-Trinidad.

The show was also supported by The Caribbean Development Trust, the affiliated charity , Bar 38,CI Manniquin, Poison UK, Soca News, Angostura, Bspoke Media,Tobago House of Assemble- Department of Tourism, Paddington Arts Elimu, Vee,s Promotion, Tinis in London and TTPNUK.

Chandani Persaud is a 20yrs Trinidad national who resides in North London and represented St Agustine in the pageant. She is currently studying Biomedical Sciences at Kings College University London. She has a diploma in Indian classical dancing and is a member of a dance society. Chandani has a friendly and strong personality and a great passion as a dancer and is a member of her family dance group the Indo Caribbean dance troupe. She is definitely a beauty with brains. After winning the title she was whisked away by Angela Cox by a stretch limo to an invitation to BBC Radio 5 Live BBC London Television House at 1 am to make her first public engagement. Chandani handled the interview as a true ambassador for her country and title.Amongst her many prizes is a trip to Trinidad and Tobago.

Part of her duties would be to assist the Caribbean Development Trust (CDT) (info at www.caribbeandevelopmenttrust.com) our affiliate charity. Her next engagement is to attend the Republic day celebration at the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission on the 26th September.

On the Monday 2nd October she will spend a day at the races for the Trinidad & Tobago race day at Pontefract Racecourse West Yorkshire.


Other winners were First runners up Crystal Romero who represented Tobago, she is a dental nurse from Middlesex was sponsored by the Tobago House of Assembly, Department of Tourism. Second runners up and winner of Carivog International Model is Tovalin Bartholomew, she is an A’ level student who represented Five Rivers Aroca and was sponsored by Gren Ltd ; winner of Miss Website was Nicole Lancaster a Mental Health Act Administrative assistant(BA Hons)from East London sponsored by Family and Friends United. Miss Elegance is Sahara Fergus Simms sponsored by Masque Bar an A level student from South East London, represented San Fernando. ;Miss Amity – Racheal Nancoo from North West London sponsored by French Kiss; Miss Personality – Eutris Applewhite of North London sponsored by Northern Range Ltd; Special Awards Best Project ( Delegate had to research their area) Remi Asanya of South London sponsored by Jubille Dry Cleaners.

The delegates expressed their gratitude for the support given by the organising committee and their appreciation for the holistic workshops they received over the past months by Carivog International. The workshops were directed by Kiechelle Degale of State of Confidence and supported by Pauley Skerrette- physical fitness instructor Managing Director of X’pozure, Gillian Joseph and Karen Salandy Make up artist, Tennille Noriega- Deportment training.

The show attracted many celebrities including Brent Sanchos, Stern John and other member of the Soca Worriers team and many other high profile persons including international beauty queens. The distinguished panel of judges were Wendel Clements businessman and director of Poison UK, Natalie Johnson Miss Trinidad and Tobago 2004/A doctor; Miss Maya2005, Roppa Mayor. Cllr. Berta Joan Joseph-Mayor of Brent, Vicy Jones, Business woman, Brent Sanchos footballer.

The adjudicator was Ansel Wong of PR/Marketing Focus Consultancy and judges coordinator Dee Cumming.

The supporting Beauty crew were from Reiga Hair and Beauty supported by Hair Art by Jawaad, Karen Salandy and Curtis Agard and managed by Gillian Joseph. The general show choreography by Rueben P. Joseph of CI Mannequins.

The show, which was presented by MC Smokey Joe, Alafair Celestine and Janine La Rosa. The twin islands of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago yet showed its connection with Britain with a segment of the delegates presenting themselves in black with jewellery from Klyes Jewellers in a Bond theme. The performing entertainers were vocalist Jamima Douglas, Laselles- saxophonist, Chutney Soca Queen Shirley Ramberan. Direct from Trinidad and Tobago gold medal winners from Hollywood World Championship of Performing Arts the Boodasingh Tassa Players and Trinidad and Tobago Young King Soca Monarch Seon Daniel.
