The festival will be split into four areas and there will be nearly 100 community stalls, a craft market, circus workshops, fun for kids, sports field, extreme bikes, Rocklands Stage, Flying Fox, Rolling Sound, Community information and much more. Over 30,000 people are expect to attend the festival at Mountsfield Park in Catford. The programme for the day is available on Lewisham council's website. The Dualers – Will be appearing on the Broadway Stage at 4.30pm. Their unique blend of Ska, Soul and Reggae has made the mesmerising Cranstoun brothers and their band the ones to watch in 2009 and beyond. We love them and we know you will too! Check them out at: www.thedualers.com Harare Dread - On the village Hall Stage at 6pm - Harare Dread is Pax Nindi, a People's Day veteran with links to the Festival since 1985. Expect hot and Heavy Zimbabwean sounds from the undisputed master of live roots Afrikan reggae. Earlier in the day on the village Hall visitors can enjoy a Bollywood Ballroom Tea Dance, a Barn Dance and a storming Irish Band. So it will be a real chance to get up on the dance floor and let your hair down - if you don't have a dance partner you are sure to find one! The James Taylor Quartet on the Albany Stage at 5.45pm - We are delighted to welcome the hugely popular James Taylor Quartet to People's Day. Playing rare groove and Jazz funk, this four piece band is renowned for outstanding live sets, regularly selling out venues like the Jazz café and Brixton Academy. London Breakbeat Orchestra on the Broadway Stage at 5.55pm - is the UK’s only orchestra dedicated to performance of live dance music, with over 30 musicians on stage! The Metro described London Breakbeat Orchestra as “Layering tense string patterns over the bob and weave rhythms of old school drum ‘n’ bass. Perfect for fans of Goldie and Vivaldi!” Usually selling out venues like Cargo and attracting a super cool crowd, we are lucky to have secured London Breakbeat Orchestra for People's Day. The conductor, Cimeon Ellerton works for the Council's Arts Service and lives in Lewisham. Especially for our 25th Birthday over 200 young musicians from Lewisham Music Service will join Lewisham Schools Concert Band and a choir of primary school children from across the Borough to perform a specially commissioned piece of work called 'Make a Sound'. There are four areas of the festival – The Red area – People won’t want to miss any of the great line-up on the Broadway Stage, so audiences are invited to get there early, throw down a picnic rug and secure a spot in this welcoming arena. The young and the young at heart will enjoy our youth village. Take a ride on the thrilling Flying Fox, check out the Extreme Bike Arena or enjoy some retail therapy in the craft market. The Green area – Here you can discover all things green and environmental in our Love Lewisham area. The parks Bandstand will be brought to life with an eclectic line-up of local performers. And hidden away behind the dragon’s arch is our quest seekers kids adventure area. In the Yellow area you can browse the many community and Council displays in Live Lewisham then take a break at the Rocklands Stage to hear some of the best emerging acts around. Right in the middle of the highest part of the park is the Village Green. Join the hoe down in the Global local Village Hall, Catch a film in the Solar Cinema, cool off with a pint from the Cake and Ale Tavern and Chill out in the Acoustic Arts Café. In the Blue corner will be the Dance for Life Stage, with dancers from 8 to 80. There will be fitness and fun in the Get Active Arena and Sports Field. This corner will also hold the Albany Stage which will showcase renowned local and international performers or enjoy an extraordinary performance against the unique backdrop of Colourscape. Dog Ban Dogs are not allowed at the event. And people are asked not bring their dog and leave it in a vehicle as this would endanger your dog if the weather is hot. Transport There is no public parking at the event except for Blue Badge parking, which can be accessed via Stainton Road. We are encouraging visitors to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the event. We are especially keen to promote the bike park facilities, located by the George Lane park entrance. |
